SKW defensive midfielder Edy Mangoumou is this month’s FNB Player of the Month after receiving the most votes from our panel of judges.
It was quite tight in the end with Edy receiving four votes, Civics midfielder Heini Isaacs three votes and African Stars midfielder Jamu Ngatjizeko one vote.
Edy has had a great season so far for SKW and helped them reach second position on the log at the end of Round 10.
As a defensive midfielder, he has been one of their star players with his strong challenges and robust tackles, his high work rate and speed to the breakdown.

Namibische Nachwuchsfußballer messen sich im Dobsonville-Stadion in Soweto mit 17 Jugend-Mannschaften aus SüdafrikaWindhoek/Swakopmund – Eine Gruppe von 16 Fußballtalenten aus Namibia macht sich heute auf den Weg nach Südafrika. Am Sonntag beginnt in Johannesburg das VW Junior Masters 2012. Vor zwei Jahren war die namibische Auswahl bei der Afrika-Premiere des Wettbewerbs für unter 13-jährige Nachwuchskicker im Viertelfinale ausgeschieden.
„Dieses Jahr werden wir besser abschneiden“, ist Chef-Trainer George Engelbauer überzeugt. Der Jugendcoach vom Swakopmunder FC (SFC) war erneut für die Zusammenstellung der Mannschaft verantwortlich. Beim abschließenden Trainingslager, das vom 19.-23. Dezember 2011 auf dem SFC-Gelände durchgeführt wurde, gab er den endgültigen Kader bekannt. Mit Godwin Awaseb, Tim Gebhardt, Bruce Goaseb, York Hambrecht, Zidane Hendricks und Roma Stührenberg gehören sechs SFC-Spieler zum 16-köpfigen Aufgebot. Vom Sportklub Windhoek (SKW) wurden Andrew Reginald, Marcel Bader, Lucas Beggs und Yannick Bohn nominiert. Komplettiert wird das Team durch Ramblers-Angreifer Tuhafeni Leonard, die Swallows-Spieler Festus Adimba und Joey Chiyaka sowie Ben Namib, Jimmy Ulrich und Ronaldo Zaahl von der Khomas Football Academy (KFA).

PANDULENI ‘Kaka’ Nekundi has been invited to attend trials at South African Premiership side Jomo Cosmos from Sunday.
Nekundi confirmed the planned trial to The Namibian Sport yesterday. The 23-year-old striker top scored for Sport Klub Windhoek, with five league goals to his name, during the first half of the current campaign.
An upbeat Nekundi, who is tied joint second for the Namibia Premier League leading scorer with five other players, said he planned to make the most of the opportunity. “Apart from feeling honoured, I feel this is a great opportunity to truly measure how good I am,” said Nekundi. “They haven’t told me how long the trial is for but normally it’s about two weeks.” Nekundi, blessed with a delicate touch and a good turn of speed, said the trial was orchestrated through a mutual acquaintance, who recommended him to Cosmos. “Regardless of whether I make it or not, I’ll up my game. Obviously being invited for trials abroad is a big motivating factor.”
Locally, Tigers and Ramblers have also shown interest in acquiring his services, Nekundi said. “I was loaned to SKW for half the season from Unam FC. So far I know Tigers want to sign me and Ramblers have asked me to listen to their offer,” he said.

Chomas FC and Celtic 1 were the winners of the 2011 edition on the annual Christmas Cup held at the Swakopmund Football Club (SFC) in Swakopmund recently. Chomas FC were the winners of the Social M&Z Cup while Celtic 1 won the League Hansa Cup.
In the finals, Chomas FC beat SFC 2 2-0 in an exciting encounter that saw them take the lead at the conclusion of the first half through Rene Traut. Traut also scored the second goal to complete his brace in the 58th minute to give the newly established team the Cup in their first participation at the tournament. Chomas FC, which was made up of players from SFC and SKW, had defeated Stellenbosch Dare Devils 3-2 on penalties in the semi final after the match had ended with a score of 1-1. They had beaten SKW 1-0 in the quaterfinals. In the league final, Celtic 1 reclaimed their title after they beat Real Madrid 1-0 through a goal from David Goeieman. Celtic 1 had the services of Namibian international Tangeni Shipahu while Real Madrid had Eleven Arrows’ Jordan Haimbili on their side.
In the semi finals, Celtic 1 defeated SFC 1-0 while Real Madrid beat a nine man Western Spurs 4-2. Twelve teams participated in the social cup while six teams participated in the league cup. Chomas FC received N$2 000 while Celtic 1 received N$6 000 for winning the two cups.

Unter 13-jährige Nachwuchsfußballer verpassen in Johannesburg knapp den Einzug in die K.o.-Runde
Die namibische Auswahl ist beim diesjährigen VW Junior Masters im Dobsonville-Stadion in Soweto nicht über die Gruppenphase hinausgekommen. Das von George Engelbauer betreute Team verpasste trotz starker Auftritte den angepeilten Sprung ins Viertelfinale.
Windhoek/Johannesburg – Es war eigentlich ein Start nach Maß. Beim souveränen 4:1-Auftaktsieg gegen die Barons aus Gauteng überzeugten die vom Windhoeker Autohaus Zimmermann Garage gesponserten namibischen U13-Kicker mit ihrer offensiven Spielweise und ihrer großen Einsatzfreude. Insbesondere der zwölfjährige Doppeltorschütze Tuhafeni Leonard vom Ramblers FC präsentierte sich in Top-Form. Ronaldo Zaahl von der Khomas Football Academy (KFA) und Joey Chiyaka von den Swallows erhöhten auf 4:0. Zwei Minuten vor dem Schlusspfiff musste die Elf von Chefcoach George Engelbauer den einzigen Gegentreffer der Partie hinnehmen, als die Barons einen Freistoß direkt verwandelten.
Im zweiten Spiel des Tages schaltete das namibische Team aus unerklärlichen Gründen einen Gang zurück. „Wir hatten eigentlich gehofft, dass der deutliche Auftaktsieg den Jungs die nötige Sicherheit geben würde, um ihr Potenzial voll auszuschöpfen“, berichtete Engelbauer im AZ-Gespräch. „Aber wir haben es versäumt, den Schwung mitzunehmen.“ Trotz einer schwachen Vorstellung reichte es gegen die Barons aus KwaZulu-Natal zu einem 1:0-Erfolg. Torschütze war erneut Ramblers-Angreifer Tuhafeni Leonard, der seinen dritten Turniertreffer erzielte.
Im Abendspiel traf das Engelbauer-Team auf die punktgleiche Auswahl von Lindsay Saker, die sich bei ihren ersten beiden Auftritten sehr offensivstark präsentiert hatte. Engelbauer entschied sich zu einer taktischen Umstellung, löste die Viererabwehrkette auf und ließ seine Youngster mit einem Libero hinter drei Manndeckern agieren. Das Konzept ging zunächst voll auf. Die Defensivabteilung ließ kaum gegnerische Torchancen zu und vorne war wieder einmal Tuhafeni Leonard zur Stelle, der das namibische Team kurz vor der Pause nach einem mustergültig vorgetragenen Konterangriff mit seinem vierten Tor des Tages auf die vermeintliche Siegerstraße brachte.
Nach dem Seitenwechsel kämpfte die namibische Auswahl um Kapitän Marcel Bader leidenschaftlich, gab alles, um die knappe Führung bis zum Schlusspfiff zu verteidigen. Doch es kam, wie es kommen musste: Zunächst vergab die Zimmermann-Elf zwei Riesenchancen zur Vorentscheidung, ehe sie 30 Sekunden vor Spielende nach einem verunglückten Befreiungsschlag den Ausgleichstreffer der Südafrikaner hinnehmen musste. „Der Schock saß tief“, berichtet Engelbauer. Dabei hätte seine Mannschaft das erklärte Minimalziel Viertelfinale am nächsten Morgen noch aus eigener Kraft erreichen können.
Gegner war das Team West Cape, das als Favorit in der Vorrundengruppe D gehandelt wurde. Das namibische Trainergespann um George Engelbauer entschied sich erneut für eine defensive Ausrichtung mit Tuhafeni Leonard als einziger Spitze. Doch die Taktik ging diesmal nicht auf, die verlustpunktfreie Auswahl vom Westkap eroberte mit einem 2:0-Sieg die Tabellenführung. Nachdem das Johannesburger Team Lindsay Saker das abschließende Gruppenspiel gegen West Cape gewonnen hatte, war das Aus der namibischen Elf endgültig besiegelt.
„Wir waren alle sehr enttäuscht und traurig“, fasste Engelbauer das Stimmungsbild der namibischen Delegation zusammen. Das Viertelfinale war im Vorfeld des Turniers, an dem insgesamt 18 Teams teilnahmen, als Minimalziel ausgegeben worden. Soweit war die namibische Auswahl 2010 in Port Elizabeth gekommen. Dort hatte Volkswagen die Afrika-Premiere des Jugendfußballwettbewerbs ausgerichtet. „Trotz des frühen Ausscheidens genießen wir bei den Organisatoren und dem Veranstalter großen Respekt“, betonte George Engelbauer.
Turniersieger wurde die U13-Auswahl des gastgebenden Erstligisten Moroka Swallows, die den afrikanischen Kontinent im Mai beim weltweiten Finale des VW Junior Masters in der polnischen Hauptstadt Warschau repräsentieren wird. Die namibischen Gruppengegner Lindsay Saker und West Cape scheiterten beim afrikanischen Qualifikationsturnier in Soweto beide im Halbfinale.

The second round of the Namibia Premier League resumes on Friday night when log leaders Black Africa take on second-placed SKW at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
Black Africa dominated the first round of the league and after 11 matches have built up a massive 10-point lead at the top of the log. They in fact only dropped four points along the way and are still unbeaten with nine wins and two draws.
Despite their dominance, club chairman Cassius Moetie said they would not take their opponents lightly.
“SKW is one of the best developed clubs in the league and they will be highly motivated to play the defending champions. We are continuously motivating our players to beware of a false sense of security and we will not rest on our laurels,” he said.
Black Africa have not signed any new players ahead of the second round because they had faith in their current squad.
“This squad has sufficient capacity and has done very well over the first round, so we have faith in them and decided that we dont need reinforcements,” he said.
One player who will be missing though is striker Jerome Louis, who is currently on trial with a first division club in Dubai, UAE. According to Moetie, Louis has impressed the club who could soon sign him on.
“There is great interest in him and I’m expecting a call soon to hear if they will sign him up. Jerome is happy and in high spirits and he feels he can play at a different level over there.”
Moetie said they had sufficient strikers to cover for the absence of Louis.
“To have Jerome in the team is always a blessing, but we have excellent strikers who can still take us to the title. We have the depth and the capacity to win the league again,” he said.
Black Africa toured the coast last weekend where they played a friendly against Blue Waters and lost 2-1, but Moetie was not too perturbed about the result.
“We gave all our players a run and tried different combinations, so I’m not too worried. But Blue Waters are a good team and they managed to draw against us in the first round. One can see that Sandro de Gouveia’s hard work is producing results,” he said.
SKW are second on the log on 19 points and will have to win the match if they hope to challenge for the title. SKW PRO Rolf Beiter however said that they were not putting any pressure on their players.
“BA have the better team on paper so the pressure will be on them. If we win it will be great but the management is not putting any pressure on the players. We have a very young squad and I dont think we have the ability to challenge them for the title,” he said.
According to Beiter, they transferred eight players during the transfer window period and appointed six new youngsters.
“We got rid of some of the older players like Ivan Bloom and Henry Somseb, while we signed six youngsters, mostly from our youth academy and from Unam. We have trained very hard and our preparations have gone well. Ou players are fit and hopefully we can pull off a surprise,” he said.
SKW played three friendly matches over the past fortnight, beating Eleven Arrows 3-2 and losing to Civics 2-1 and Orlando Pirates 2-0. Beiter said the results were not very important because they had tried out different combinations and given their youngsters some playing time.
SKW however still have a formidable squad with players like goalie Charles Uirab, defender Martin Kambungu, midfielders Edy Mangoumou and Chepela Chepela, winger Joslin Kamatuka and striker Panduleni Nekundi in their midst. Especially Nekundi has been in fine form and is currently joint-second on the Top Goalscorers chart on five goals - one behind the leader, Jerome Louis.
The match is scheduled to start at 20h00.

SKW held log leaders Black Africa to a 2-2 draw in an entertaining match at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Friday night. In the end a draw was probably a fair result, although both teams had numerous chances to win the game.
All the goals came in a pulsating first half of frenetic action. Black Africa went on the attack first with Willy Stephanus and Marco van Wyk coming close early on. But SKW took the lead against the run of play when a long throw in by Elvis Tjivisera was headed on and Joslin Kamutuka stabbed the loose ball into the far post. Barely two minuteds later BA drew level through a superb goal by Eslin Kamahunga. Willy Stephanus tore down the right wing and crossed to Marko van Wyk who deftly flicked the ball to Eslin Kamuhunga, whose cracking shot from the edge of the box hit the back of the net. SKW regained the lead on 25m through a Martin Kambungu freekick that beat BA keeper Arnold Subeb with an awkward bounce. But BA showed their fighting spirit when they once again drew level from a corner on 31m. SKW keeper Charles Uirab punched the ball clear but Bradley Wermann headed the rebound into the net past several defenders on the line.
BA once again started the second half on the attack winning several corners in the opening stages but they could not find the net. Eslin Kamutuka came close with a long range effort, but it was SKW who finished stronger, creating several clearcut chances in the final quarter of the match. Their winger Joslin Kamutuka was involved in most of them with his pinpoint crosses while he also put in some great solo runs into BA’s box, but the support was lacking.
The result sees Black Africa remain on top on 30 points, while SKW remain second on 20 points.

A goal two minutes from time gave African Stars a dramatic 1-0 victory against Orlando Pirates at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday. The match seemed to be heading for a draw when Stars won a freekick that Ronald Ketjijere blasted over the wall and over the goals. Referee Rainhold Shikongo indicated that the ball had deflected off the wall and ordered a corner, from which Muna Katupose rose high to head the ball into the net. Pirates were stunned as they thought it should have been a goal kick and when the final whistle went two minutes later some of their fans vented their frustration by pelting African Stars players with beer cans as they left the field. It was a poor end to a great match full of end to end attacks that had the fans on the edge of their seats.
Stars attacked from the onset with Muna Katupose and Edwin Korukuve prominent early on, but Pirates were quick on the counter with Harold Kandera and Gustav Isaack both coming close to scoring. But Stars had the better chances as Pirates keeper Helmut Maletsky made a point blank save to tip a Robert Nganjone header away, while Muna Katupose headed narrowly over the crossbar just before the break. Pirates came back strongly in the second half with substitutes Johannes Seibeb and Nicky Musambani making a big impact and only some fine goalkeeping by Max Mbaeva kept them out. In the final stages, Milton Chapo came close for Stars when his shot was scrambled off the line, The match was delayed several times due to recurring injuries to Pirates keeper Helmut Maletsky and in the 10th minute of overtime, Stars finally got the winner through Katupose's great header. The result sees Stars moving into second spot on 21 points - nine behind log leaders Black Africa.
At the Ramblers field, Ramblers beat Hotspurs 4-2 after leading 3-0 at halftime. Emilio Martin scored a brace and Samuel Goagoseb and Randall Goagoseb one each for Ramblers, while Richard Kavendji and Hotspurs’ new signing Riaan Cloete scored for Hotspurs.
In Rundu, United Stars and Tigers played to a 2-all draw. Ananias Gebhardt and Benson Shilongo scored for Tigers while Lindon Aseb and Gela Kandjimi scored for United Stars.
Eleven Arrows finally recorded their first win of the season under new coach and they did it in spectacular style when they beat Mighty Gunner 3-0 in Otjiwarongo. Their Nigerian striker Edon Dominic scored a brace while Zimbabwean Peter Ngwenya scored the third. The victory sees them moving off the foot of the table, just ahead of United Stars on goal difference.

Hoffenheim Under 23 opened their Namibian tour with a 3-2 victory against a combined SKW and Ramblers team at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium on Friday evening. Goals by Andreas Ludwig and Denis Thomalla gave Hoffenheim a 2-0 lead at halftime, but the home team came back strongly in the second half as they equalised through Joslin Kamatuka and Panduleni Nekundi. Bjorn Recktenwald however gave Hoffenheim victory with a goal in the final 10m of the game.
Hoffenheim dominated the opening exchanges and Kai Herdling hit the back of the net after only 1m, only to have the goal disallowed for offside. With Andreas Ludwig, Nicolai Gross and Kai Herdling combining well in attack, more chances came their way and Ludwig volleyed in a cross on 21m but once again the goal was disallowed for offside. Their pressure finally paid off on 28m when Ludwig ran onto a throughpass from Denis Thomalla to slip the ball past Charles Uirab. Barely 8m later Thomalla made it 2-0 after a fine attack by Ahmed Sassi.
SKW/Ramblers came back more determined in the second half and Joslin Kamutuka opened their account on 65m when he ran onto a throughpass into the box to score into the right hand corner. Kamatuka turned provider on 71m when he dribbled into the box and passed back to Panduleni Nekundi who volleyed into the net. With 9m to Seifedin Chabbi broke through on the right wing and passed to Bjorn Recktenwald who volleyed home from close range.
In the final stages several Hoffenheim players struggled with cramps and minor injuries and with their substitutes bench already used up, coach Frank Kramer even went on in the final minutes.
Hoffenheim U23’s next match is against Namibian league champions Black Africa on Sunday at 17h00 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

Hoffenheim U23 won their final match of their Namibian tour when they beat a Brave Warriors invitation team 1-0 on Thursday afternoon.
The Brave Warriors consisted mostly of U23 players that coach Bernard Kaanjuka put through their paces to test different combinations ahead of Namibia’s Afcon 2013 qualifier against Liberia on February 29. The Brave Warriors had by far the most possession, but it was Hoffenheim who took the lead against the run of play when Robin Szarka pounced onto a loose ball and struck a 20m shot into the left hand corner after only 9m. The Brave Warriors launched attack after attack with Sydney Urikhob, Petrus Shitmebi, Hendrik Somaeb, Eslin Kamuhanga and Bryan Bantam all prominent, but they could not break through Hoffenheim’s defence. They had two great chances within a minute when Somaeb dribbled into the box and sent an angled shot inches wide of the upright, while an Urikhob shot was brilliantly saved by a diving Tim Paterok in Hoffenheim’s goal.
Hoffenheim won a penalty early in the second half after a foul in the box but Namibian keeper Arnold Subeb pulled off a great save from Hoffenheim captain Kai Herdling. Kaanjuka rang some changes in the second half, bringing on Bradley Wermann, Benson Shilongo, Jamu Ngatjizeko and Alfeus Handura but it did not make much difference as Namibia failed to penetrate Hoffenheim’s defence. The match also started to deteriorate a bit as the rain seeped down in the second half and chances were few and far between.
It was Hoffenheim’s second victory of their Namibian tour after they beat a combined SKW/Ramblers team 3-2 in their first match on February 9, while they lost 3-1 to Black Africa two days later.

SKW beat Ramblers 2-0 on Saturday to move to within a point of second placed African Stars.
Playing at the Ramblers field, SKW controlled the game for most part and were worthy winners against a weak Ramblers side that seldom looked like scoring. Ramblers had a few chances early on with a Simon Shikokolo shot being cleared off the line, while an Emilio Martin freekick was well saved by SKW keeper Charles Uirab. But SKW soon took control and with Joslin Kamutuka and Theuny Thomas putting in some good runs, the chances came their way. They took the lead on 41m when Panduleni Nekundi headed in at the far post from a Kamutuka freekick, and just before halftime Erastus Ndjavera did well to head a volley by Edy Mangoumou off the line.
Things got worse for Ramblers shortly after the break when Larry Horaeb was sent off after picking up a second yellow card for diving. Mangoumou missed a great chance on 73m when he shot wide with an open goal gaping, but 3m later their pressure paid off with a great goal by Mekondjo Tobias. Joslin Kamutuka sent in a cross, Panduleni Nekundi flicked it on and Tobias volleyed the ball into the left hand corner to seal SKW’s win. They now move up to 23 points, one point behind Civics and African Stars, while Ramblers remain sixth on 20 points.
Pirates beat United Stars
Orlando Pirates meanwhile moved up to seventh position on 19 points after beating United Stars 2-0 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium. After a goalless first half the chances came thick and fast for Pirates after the break as their youthful team ran United Stars ragged. Gustav Isaack hit the post with a cracking 20m shot on 50m, but a minute later Isaack opened Pirates’ account from the penalty spot after a handball in the box. Isaack had a great game and continued to torment Stars’ defence with his tricky runs, while Ronaldo Tsowaseb and Stanley Kamesiepo also put in some strong runs. Isaack completed his brace just before fulltime with a great volley from a Kamesiepo cross. that hit the roof of the net.
In Walvis Bay, Blue Waters won the coastal derby after beating Eleven Arrows 2-1. Admire Dzukamanja scored both Blue Waters’ goals, while Edom Dominic replied for Eleven Arrows. The result sees Blue Waters moving up to eighth position on 16 points while Arrows remain 11th on six points.

Namibia’s Brave Warriors produced an impressive display to beat Mozambique 3-0 in a friendly soccer match in Windhoek on Wednesday afternoon.
A goal by Sadney Urikhob on the stroke of halftime and a brace by second half substitute Benson Shilongo completed an exciting performance by Namibia’s young local based Brave Warriors. Namibia dominated possession and attacked Mozambique from the start with wingers Eslin Kamuhanga and Willy Stephanus prominent in the early build ups. Sadney Urikhob applied constant pressure in the box, while Heini Isaacks and Bradley Wermann created opportunities with their attacks from central midfield. Mozambique’s defence managed to keep them at bay, while the finishing touches often lacked but it was just a matter of time for Namibia’s pressure to tell. It came on the stroke of halftime when Sadney Urikhob scored a great goal. Captain Ronald Ketjijere found Willy Stephanus with a great throughball on the right wing. Stephanus cut inside and passed to Urikhob in the box. With three defenders closing in, he managed to swivel past his marker and struck a shot high into the left hand corner that gave Mozambican keeper Joao Rafael no chance.
Namibian coach Bernard Kaanjuka rang the changes in the second half, bringing on Jamu Ngatjizeko, Petrus Shitembi, Benson Shilongo, Bryan Bantam and Hendrik Somaeb, and they continued where their team mates had left off in the first half. Eslin Kamuhanga missed a great chance in the first minute when he received a pass from Willy Stephanus but failed to control the ball in time as the Mozambican defence recovered. At the other end, Manuel Uetimane shot a freekick over the bar while Francisco Massinga had a long range effort saved, but Mozambique’s chances were few and far between. Namibia’s substitutes soon slotted in and Shitembi and Somaeb made an impact with their dribbling skills, while Bantam brought a new dimension with his visionary passes, but it was Shilongo who took the accolades with two goals. On 64m the impressive Stephanus produced a perfect cross from the right wing, which Shilongo controlled to shoot into the left hand corner of the net. Two minutes later Shilongo had another great chance when he ran onto a Shitembi pass but his shot was well saved by Rafael. Somaeb provided a dangerous cross into the box which Mozambique’s defence just managed to clear, while Mozambique’s best chance came on 80m when a long range effort by Diogo Alberto was tipped for a corner. But Namibia had the final say when Shilongo rounded off a great move five minutes from time. Shitembi put Bantam on the run with a great through-pass and the Black Africa midfielder sent in a perfectly timed delivery into the box, which Shilongo stabbed in with a first time shot. It was a great goal to finish off an impressive performance that will give Namibia a lot of confidence ahead of their Afcon 2013 qualifier against Liberia on February 29.
The only disappointing aspect was the poor crowd of less than 300 people who turned up to watch the match.

Namibian national men and women’s archery teams have been selected to compete at the ninth Africa Archery Championships which take place in Morocco from March 11 to 16.
The Archery Association of Namibia nominated a men’s compound and women’s compound team, according to the AAN rankings which were based on 50m scores over the past 12 months. The men’s team consists of Francois Marais, with a weighted score of 342,25, Louw Nel with a score of 334,85 and Lesley Page with a score of 331,35.
The women’s team consists of Iroleen Page with a score of 323,20, Beanta Viviers witjh a score of 318 and Beatrix van der Merwe with a score of 310,50. This will be the first time that a full women’s team will represent Namibia at the AAC. Namibia has competed at the biennial African Archery Championships since 2006 and achieved some successful results. In 2010 Namibia’s Compound Men’s Team won a gold medal, while individual Namibian archers won two silver and one bronze medal. “The Namibian team has been training intensively over the past month, both in Windhoek and Walvis Bay, with special emphasis on team events, which involves some tight timing exercises. Individual scores have also consistently improved during this time. The archers are thus well prepared,” said the president of AAN, Frank Bockmuhl.
National Colours were recently awarded by the Namibian Sports Commission. The team will be accompanied by the national coach, Marja Woortman and the team manager Frank Bockmühl, who will also attend the Annual Congress of the FAA (Federation of African Archery) in Morocco.
The team will leave Windhoek on Friday 9th March and will reach Rabat via Johannesburg and Paris, and will arrive back in Windhoek again on Sunday 18th March. Results can be followed online at:
Kamatuka scores injury time winner for SKW Submitted by Helge Schutz, 08 March 2012
A 93rd minute goal by Joslin Kamatuka gave SKW a dramatic 1-0 victory over Hotspurs at the SKW Stadium on Wednesday night. The match seemed to be heading for a draw when Kamutuka broke clear down the left wing, cut inside and sent a low shot in to beat Hotspurs’ keeper at the near post.
It was a cruel end for Hotspurs who had defended well till then and when the final whistle went seconds later, members of their technical team and some supporters invaded the pitch to vent their frustration at the match officials. They claimed that the goal came after extra time and that Kamatuka was also in an offside position, but their protests only tarnished the image of Namibian football.
It was a disappointing end to a largely poor match that only livened up in the final 15 minutes when both teams had numerous scoring opportunities. In a first half of little action, SKW striker Panduleni Nekundi had a freekick saved, while at the other end, Seven Nangolo had a shot saved after a fine dribble by Leonard Stanley. Just before halftime Edy Mangoumou missed a great chance from a corner when he volleyed over the bar from close range. Hotspurs were reduced to 10 men when Riaan Cloete was sent off for a foul midway through the second half, but despite their disadvantage they still managed to create some chances. Leonard Stanley shot narrowly wide for Hotspurs on 75m, while SKW defender Elvis Tjivasera headed inches over the bar from a corner a minute later. Hotspurs’ substitute striker Jacky Stephanus made an immediate impact when he combined well with Stanley, whose shot was well saved by Charles Uirab on 80m. Two minutes later, however, Stephanus missed a great chance when he took too long to shoot in front of goal, and his effort was eventually blocked. SKW lifted the tempo in the final minutes as a Petrus Naftali header bounced off the crossbar from a corner, before Kamatuka’s last gasp goal gave them victory.
The victory sees SKW moving up to second on the log on 26 points - seven points behind the leaders Black Africa. Hotspurs meanwhile remain 10th on 12 points, but they will be looking nervously over their shoulders at 11th placed Eleven Arrows, who have two games in hand.

The battle to avoid relegation in the MTC Premiership heated up on Saturday as some shock results were recorded. The biggest upset took place at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium where Mighty Gunners beat Orlando Pirates 3-1.
It was a poor performance by Pirates, who failed to make use of their chances, while they were totally outplayed by the Otjiwarongo visitors. Gustav Isaack missed two penalties, while keeper Helmuth Maletsky let in a goal through poor goal keeping. Engelhard Kahua gave Pirates the lead, but Gunners winger David Anton equalised for the Otjiwarongo visitors just before the break. Two minutes after the restart, Gustav Isaack missed a penalty, kicking wide of goals, while Johannes Kandadi put Gunners 2-1 up when he rounded off a counterattack on 65m. Two minutes later Kandadi beat the offside trap but with just Pirates’ keeper Helmut Maletsky to beat, his chipped shot hit the crossbar. At the other end, Kahua hit the post with a volley, but Gunners immediately counterattacked and Lorenzo Beukes put them 3-1 ahead with a 30m shot that slipped through Maletsky’s hands into the net. With six minutes to go, Pirates won a second penalty for a foul, but Isaack ballooned his shot over the bar, while Pirates’ miserable day was further underlined when Brian Gurirab hit the post from a freekick in the final stages. The result sees Gunners remaining in ninth position, but now 8 points clear of the relegation zone, while Pirates are seventh on the log, one point ahead of Gunners.
At the SKW field Hotspurs and Eleven Arrows battled it out to a 3-3 draw. Arrows took the lead three times but Hotspurs equalised each time to take a share of the spoils. Arrows’ scorers were Edom Dominic, Enrico Hoebeb and Maxwell Plaatjies, while Richard Kavendji, John Schultz and Jacky Stephanus scored for Hotspurs. The result sees Arrows remaining second last on the log on 10 points, while Hotspurs are one place above them on 13 points.
Blue Waters remained eighth on the log after beating African Stars 1-0 at the Kuisebmund Stadium with Hendrik Somaeb scoring the winner two minutes into the second half. It was Stars’ fifth defeat of the season and they now well of the pace, 15 points behind the leaders Black Africa. Black Africa meanwhile continued on their unbeaten streak as they beat United Stars 2-0 at the Ramblers field. Bryan Bantam and Jerome Louis scored their goals which saw BA moving nine points clear of second placed Civics. BA have now won 12 and drawn 3 of their 15 matches and with only six rounds remaining they seem assured of retaining their title. Civics beat SKW 2-0 on Friday night through goals by Heini Isaacks and Alex Ferreira.

Namibia will host Zambia, South Africa and Westphalia in a Four Nations Under-17 tournament at Walvis Bay over the Easter break.
The Under-17 tournament will be played at the Kuisebmund Stadium from 5 to 9 April and will provide youngsters with a great chance to prove themselves at international level.
According to the Namibian team’s assistant coach Gerald Guther, his team is geared up for the competition. “It will be a great chance for the boys to lift their game and playing against these countries will encourage our players,” Guther said. Guther, who is the head coach of Southern Stream first division side Swakopmund Football Club will be assistant to head coach Timo Tjongarero and is proud of the players they have. “The guys are young and keen to learn every day from the coaches and their response has been great so far,” he said. The Namibian team lost 1-0 to the Khomas Under 20 regional team on Sunday, before losing 2-0 to Premiership side African Stars on Monday.
The tournament forms part of the bilateral agreement between the Namibian Ministry of Sport and the Westphalia Region in Germany, which dates back to 1994. Every two years Namibia host their German counterparts while they visit Westphalia every odd year as part of the agreement. Last year, Namibia won the Youth Cup in Westphalia after beating Arminia Bielefeld 1-0 in the final. This year the tournament will be played at the Kuisebmund Stadium for the fourth time, with the three previous tournaments taking place in 2005, 2008 and 2010.

Windhoek will be hosting a Pilot Youth Leagues Project starting this weekend as the NFA takes youth football to another level.
According to the Namibia Football Association Technical Director Klaus Staerk, youth football is a primary objective of the NFA and his office is mandated with ensuring that structures are in place to streamline youth football and nurture its development. “For the firs time ever we will have a pilot project for youths aged 9 to 19. Each of these leagues will have a chairman who will run the affairs but the NFA Youth Development committee of Jakes Amaning, Timo Tjongarero and Isaac Hamata will be supervising it”, Staerk said. He added that Youth Football was solely left to schools to run in the past, but about three years ago with the introduction of the NFA’s Youth Development through Football (YDF) programme, the rationale changed. “The idea is to slowly but surely introduce youth football at clubs and academies to compliment what the schools are doing. We want to give our youngsters a chance to play more football”, Staerk said.
Staerk, who was seconded to the NFA by the German Football Association three years ago, talked highly of the group of players that are part of the Brave Warriors today as he started with them three years ago.
“I started with a Under-17 side three years ago and it was very talented and it won’t be every day that we can find such a group of players. The likes of Petrus Shitembi, Lovers Kamuhanga, Sadney Urikhob, Teberius Lombard, Larry Horaeb and many more that are today integral to the Brave Warriors and are testimony to what youth football development can do. They have done well together from Under-17 to Under- 20 and now they are in the senior national team.”
Staerk reckons the current group of Under-17 players has the potential to emulate the Kamuhanga Group: “I saw them in Walvis Bay and one could see that we have potential. Two years ago we lost 7-0 to Westphalia but this time we only lost 1-0, while we drew 2-2 against South Africa. That goes to show that with structured programmes, our players can get better and produce good results one day. Patience and investment is the key”, Staerk said. “Also at the Namibian Newspaper Cup, I could see the class on display but it needs to be more streamlined and controlled and nurtured. It gave us national selectors opportunities to look at different players from different backgrounds and parts of the country and it is very helpful indeed”, Staerk concluded.

Tigers and SKW played to a goalless draw on Friday night in a match of wasted opportunities, especially for Tigers. Tigers had numerous opportunities but Pineas Jacob, Benson Shilongo and Letu Shatimuene were wasteful in attack, while SKW keeper Charles Uirab brought off some fine saves.
The interplay between Jacob and Shilongo also left a lot to be desired as several attacks broke down due to a lack of understanding. Benson Shilongo headed over the bar from an early corner while Shatimuene had a shot well saved after breaking free on the counterattack. Elvis Tjivasera also excelled in defence bringing off a fine tackle in the box on Pineas Jacob, while Uirab did well to tip a shot by Tafadzwa Mvura for a corner. In the final stages of the half, Shilongo and Shatimuene missed great opportunities with Shilongo heading wide while Shatimuene miskicked the ball with an open goal gaping at the far post. SKW’s chances were few and far between in the first half, but it picked up after the break as Panduleni Nekundi and Joslin Kamatuka started making their presence felt. Tigers keeper Fox Nambundunga pulled off a fine save from a freekick by Mekondjo Tobias on 57m, while he also did well to punch a Kamatuka freekick clear.
But the match ended as it began - with Tigers missing some great chances. First Shatimuene failed to connect a Pineas Jacob cross at the far post, and then Charles Uirab brought off a point blank save from Jacob.

SKW and African Stars both kept their chances alive of finishing second on the log when they played a a 1-all draw at the SKW Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Stars took the lead through Ninja Karongee shortly before halftime but Edy Mangoumou equalised on 59m. SKW had a great chance to win the match when they won a penalty for handball in the final quarter, but Stars keeper Lloyd Kazapua brought off a fine save from Panduleni Nekundi.
Stars did the early attacking with Milton Chapo prominent in the buildups, while Meraai Swartbooi came close with a freekick that SKW keeper Charles Uirab just managed to tip for a corner. SKW’s best chance went to Mekondjo Tobias but his weak effort was easily saved by Lloyd Kazapua. But most of the action happened at the other end with Ronald Ketjijere blasting a 30m piledriver narrowly over the bar on 39m before Stars opened their account three minutes later. A shot by Milton Chapo was parried away by Uirab but Ninja Karongee followed up to put the loose ball into the net. Stars continued where they left off in the second half with Uirab bringing off a point blank save from Ikuaterua Tjozongoro while a freekick by Meraai Swartbooi bounced off the crossbar.
But SKW struck back in clinical fashion when Simeon Tjiueza launched a counterattack and passed to Mekondjo Tobias whose shot was parried away by Uirab, but Edy Mangoumou nipped in to shoot the loose ball into the net. SKW keeper Charles Uirab pulled off a fine diving save from an Ikuaterua Tjozongoro freekick, while there was drama at the other end when Milton Chapo handled the ball in the box. Panduleni Nekundi took the spot kick but Uirab pulled off a fine save, diving to his right.
Both sides still had chances in the final hectic minutes as Karongee first headed in, just to have the goal disallowed for offside, while Kazapua pulled off a diving save from a Theuny Thomas cracker.
The result sees SKW remaining third on 32 points, while Stars are fourth, one point behind.

Eleven Arrows and United Stars will battle it out in Walvis Bay next weekend to decide who will be relegated with Hotspurs at the end of the season.
Arrows lost 3-1 to African Stars in Windhoek while United Stars beat SKW 1-0 in Rundu with the result that both teams are now on 17 points with one match to go. As fate would have it their final match is against each other at the Kuisebmond Stadium next Saturday, and since Arrows have a one goal advantage, Stars will have to win the match to remain in the Premier League.
African Stars’ revival continued at the Sam Nujoma Stadium under caretaker coach Wagga Wagga Goagoseb as they beat Arrows 3-1 after leading 1-0 at the break. Ninja Karongee put them ahead from a goalmouth scramble on 31m, while Ronald Ketjijere made it 2-0 with five minutes to go with a brilliant volley from outside the box. Eleven Arrows pulled one back through Peter Ngwenya on 90m after a poor clearance by Stars keeper Max Mbaeva, but Ikuaterua Tjozongoro immediately struck back for Stars, when he headed in a cross from Raymond Mate. Both sides had numerous chances in a fast paced match with plenty of action at both ends. Edom Dominic came close with a header early on for Arrows, while Ninja Karongee missed a great chance on 41m when he was put clear in the box but took too long to take his shot. Arrows missed two great chances early in the second half as Dominic shot over the bar with only Mbaeva to beat while Erwin Kaujende headed wide with an open goal gaping. On 58m Dominic provided a fine cross for Enrico Hoebeb who volleyed wide of the goal, but Dominic’s good work was undone on 74m when he was red carded for foul language. But Arrows failed to make use of their chances and Stars punished them in clinical fashion when Ketjijere ran onto a back header by Karongee to volley a cracking shot into the roof of the net. Arrows struck back through Ngwenya buit Tjozongoro immediately restored Stars’ two-goal lead as they won the match 3-1.
In other matches on Saturday, Blue Waters and Ramblers played to a goalless draw in Walvis Bay, while Civics beat Mighty Gunners 2-0 in Otjiwarongo. Heini Isaacks and Sadney Urikhob scored the winning goals for Civics.

The Brave Warriors played to a goalless draw against Mozambique in a friendly match in Würzburg, Germany on Saturday.
Namibia were the early aggressors, with striker Tangeni Shipahu carrying the ball into the Mozambican half on a number of occasions. The Brave Warriors were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty on 10 minutes when it appeared that Sadney Urikhob was brought down in the box. Mozambique frustrated the Namibian attack with some solid defending at times. The Namibians however also made things difficult for themselves with poor finishing. In the 24th minute, Hendrick Somaeb broke clear but his badly judged shot went wide. He again missed the target ten minutes later after he beat the Mozambican goalkeeper Joao Rafael, but his attempted lob went wide of the mark. In the 27th minute of the match, The Black Mambas also had their chances and in the 27th minute Virgil Vries brought off a sensational save from a shot by Eduardo Jumisse. The second half was largely uneventful as it was punctuated by numerous substitutions on both sides. Bernard Kaanjuka, coach of the Brave Warriors, was satisfied with the display his charges put up. “The game went according to plan as we were trying out players in new positions,” Kaanjuka said. “The result was a fair one, since we had our chances but could not convert them. However, our last match was in February and now we are struggling with getting back to where we were. We are struggling with fitness a little bit,” he added. “But we are hoping that by the time we play Nigeria, we will be there.” “We had some chances, the problem was poor finishing on our side,” he continued. Strikers, Rudolf Bester and Jerome Louis did not play in the match due to injuries. Bester aggravated an old thigh injury during training while Louis injured his ankle.
The match was played as preparation for the Brave Warriors’ first 2014 World Cup Qualifier against Nigeria on June 3 in Calabar. The Namibian team is currently in camp in Kaiserau and will leave for Nigeria on Thursday. “There are some things that we are going to fine tune before we leave for Nigeria, so we will be working hard when we get back to Kaiserau,” Kaanjuka said.
SKW men prove unstoppable in volleyball - 07 Jun 2012 - Story by Staff Reporter New Era
WINDHOEK - The Bank Windhoek National Volleyball League 2012 continued last weekend on Saturday in the capital and in Grootfontein, with some strong performances between the competing teams.
In the Men’s League in Windhoek, DTS lost the first set against Rehoboth Volleyball Club (RHVC) in the first match of the day, but made a strong comeback to win the second and third sets, finally winning the match 3 – 1.
Khomas Nampol Volleyball Club (KNVC) and SKW battled it out in the second match with players such as Jason Nangolo and Joseph Amakali of KNVC giving SKW a tough time, but could not outperform the stellar defence by SKW players, Donald Doeseb and Rector Mbeha, who brought their team to victory, winning the match 3 – 2. In the third match, KNVC easily beat RHVC 3 – 0.
The last game of the Men’s League between DTS and SKW, took two hours and 17 minutes to conclude with SKW coming out victorious with a 3 – 2 win.

In the Ladies League in Grootfontein, the ladies in uniform, NDF, dominated the day by comfortably winning all sets in both their games against Oshikoto Police and Ondangwa-based KK Palace (KKP). DTS, who also won both their games, comfortably defeated Oshikoto Police 3 – 0, but faced a tough defense from KKP. DTS won the first set, while KKP won the second and third sets, but DTS eventually made a comeback in the fourth set, as well as the deciding set.

Civics midfielder Heini Isaacks was the big winner at the MTC Namibia Premier League awards on Sunday evening, winning two prizes worth a total of N$60 000. He received N$30 000 after winning the MTC Player of the Season award and another N$30 000 for winning the Chairman’s Award. Isaacks was not present at the awards since he is currently attending trials in Turkey, but Civics’ manager Paul Stramis who accepted the awards on his behalf said it was long overdue. “This is a great honour for Civics and for Heini to receive the MTC Player of the Season award. This award is long overdue since Heini has been one of the most consistent and professional players in the league for the past decade,” he said.
The Chairman’s Award is determined by the chairman of the NPL, JJ Doeseb, who said he decided to honour a soccer player for this year’s award. “We focussed on soccer players this year and I decided to honour Heini Isaacks for his professionalism and humbleness. I love that boy,” he said. Isaacks was Civics’ most influential player and helped them finish second on the log, behind champions Black Africa, while he finished joint fifth in the top goal scorer’s competition with seven goals.
The other big winners on the night were Black Africa midfielder Bryan Bantam who beat won N$20 000 for the MTC Player’s Player of the Year; Black Africa technical director Brian Isaacs who won the N$20000 Coach of the Season award; Rainhold Shikongo who won N$15 000 for the Referee of the Season; and Dawid Shaanika, who won N$10 000 for the Assistant Referee of the Season.
Black Africa striker Jerome Louis and Hotspurs striker Richard Kavendji, each received N$30 000 for the Top Goal Scorer of the Season, after both scored 12 goals throughout the 2011/12 season. Black Africa, who won the league title for the second year in a row, received the winner’s cheque of N$1 million, while newly promoted Rundu Chiefs and Tura Magic each received N$50 000.

Germany’s national women’s student team got their Namibian tour off with an unconvincing 1-0 victory in Katutura on Thursday afternoon. Annalisa Rutzel scored the winning goal 11m before the end of the match from a quick counterattack that left Namibia’s defence wide open. It was a disappointing end for the Brave Gladiators who defended resolutely in the final stages and seemed to have done enough for a draw.
On the whole though it was an uninspiring match, with the Germans playing a tactical, possession based match, while there were few clear chances on both sides. It was only in the final stages that the game opened up with some quick counterattacks from both sides. Chances were few and far between in the first half as the Germans played a passing game, but could not open Namibia’s defence which was well marahalled by Emma Naris and Esty Amukwaya. The best chance came towards the end of the half when right winger Julia Manger sent in a cross that captain Mirella Junker volleyed over the bar from close range. The game opened up in the second half with Gladiators keeper Meriam Swartbooi brought off two fine saves in quick succession from Julia Manger. At the other end a freekick by Kleintjie Fredericks was tipped over the bar by German keeper Christina Bellinghoven. Germany finally got the breakthrough on 79m when Manger broke away on a counterattack down the right wing and sent in a cross which Rutzel volleyed into the net, with no defence in sight. Namibia tried hard to equalise with Fredericks coming close on two occasions but she could not find the net. On the whole though it was an encouraging performance by the youthful Namibian team which included five under 17 players.

Celtic victory shrouded in Nigerian scandal
The pride and joy of Swakopmund-based Celtic Football Club, the overall winner of the Erongo Soccer Region’s 2011/2012 Second Division league, might be short-lived and shrouded in shame. This follows after a written complaint was filed with the Namibian Football Association (NFA) recently by ten other soccer clubs in the second division alleging that Celtic illegally used three Nigerian players from Blue Boys in many of their Second Division league games. The players around whose heads this storm is brewing are Kelech Ekeh, Adedeji Omololu and Endurance Ekesi.
Riaan Cloete joins Stars

There is a new face amongst the group of head coaches in the Namibian Premier League, after Gerald Güther signed a two-year contract with Eleven Arrows last week Saturday. The long serving coach of Southern Stream First Division club Swakopmund FC (SFC) has been given the task to restore the pride of the Walvis Bay based outfit after a season that almost ended in disaster.
Until the very last round, the elite coastal club was threatened by relegation, but under the guidance of youthful coach Woody Jacobs, Arrows managed a 2-0 home victory against United Stars from Rundu to secure their spot in the top-flight for another year. Despite his success, Jacobs quit the job. The directors of Arrows, however, decided to stick to the new approach of using young players instead of the big names. “That`s how Woody managed to get results at the end, so we want to further focus on youth development, since there is a lot of talent in the Erongo Region,” stated Frans Samaria, one of the club´s executive board members.
Thus, Gerald Güther, became the logical choice. The 32-year-old started coaching SFC youth teams at the age of 18. In 1999 he went to Cape Town, where he obtained a Diploma in Sports Management at the Tygerberg College. In the same period of time he completed two coaching courses conducted by the South African Football Association (SAFA) and also gained practical experience with the U13 team of Vasco da Gama. After three years in the Cape, the Windhoek-born coach returned to his home town Swakopmund, where he was now in charge of SFC youth teams from various age groups up to U19, while he also started to assist in the coaching department of the first team. By 2006, Güther was head coach and in the second year he managed to lead SFC into the First Division Southern Stream. Two years ago, the man from the coast passed an internationally acknowledged C License course run by the Namibian Football Association (NFA) in Windhoek.
The Technical Director of the NFA, Klaus Stärk, was delighted by his performance. “Gerry is one of the most promising coaches in the country.” At the end of the following year, Güther was appointed as assistant coach of the national U17 team. If he will have to give up this position due to his new commitments in the NPL, still needs to be discussed between the NFA and Arrows officials.
“Klaus Stärk encouraged me to take up the offer by Arrows, so I am sure we will find a solution”, Güther said.
Barely three months ago, the youngest of the twelve NPL head coaches successfully completed a three-week International Coaching Course (ICC) at the renowned Sportschule Hennef in Germany, where he was awarded with a certificate equivalent to the B License of the German Football Association (DFB). Güther passed all examinations with flying colours and turned out to be amongst the top three participants, who will be invited again next year for the A License course. “In that professional environment I realised that I was ready for a new challenge, so the offer by Arrows came just at the right time”, relates Güther, who is proud to be the chosen one. Nana Tjombe is equally excited. After the deal was sealed, the chairman of Arrows posted on the club`s web page: “We believe that we share the same vision and that he will be the person to take this club forward.”
Güther has not been given a specific goal for next season from the club`s side, however, he wants to stay clear of the relegation zone and finish amongst the top eight. The training will start coming Monday, 30 July, roughly six weeks before the expected start of new season. This is also the day Güther will meet his players for the first time. The German Namibian will be assisted by Dankie Hipundjua, who was promoted from being the goalkeeper coach, a task that will most likely be performed by Vonk Tjihenuna in future.
Güther is expecting 17 players from the old squad to stay on for the new season, while he will most likely bring along two or three talented youngsters from his former club SFC. “But I will first have to discuss that with the SFC directors, because I don`t want to start a war. Parting ways after such a long time was painful enough.”

SKW won the inaugural NFA Khomas Under 15 soccer league when they beat Ramblers 4-0 in Windhoek on Saturday. Ramblers just needed a draw to win the league as they held a two-point lead over SKW going into the final match of the season, but SKW rose to the occasion with a great performance.
They took the lead after only four minutes when captain Tangeni Ndeitunga pounced onto a poor back pass and tapped the ball into an empty net. Ramblers nearly equalised when a shot by Graham Delie hit the crossbar, but SKW dominated possession and increased their lead when Daniel Hassenpflug headed in a freekick by Ndeitunga on 30 minutes. Just before halftime SKW went 3-0 up when George Hummel, the son of the former Brave Warriors star with the same name, volleyed home a cross by Dieter Kebbel. Any hopes Ramblers had of a comeback were immediately thwarted after the break when SKW launched a counterattack and Ndeitunga ran onto a throughball to score their fourth goal.
Ramblers’ misery was compounded when striker Jandja Maharero was sent off for a foul from behind on Olaf Beiter, and in unpleasant scenes, he had to be restrained by his team mates from attacking Beiter.
In the final stages of the match Ramblers won a penalty for a handball, but their bad luck continued when Bonnie Paulino’s shot was saved by Christoph Kronke. SKW won the NFA Top Four Under 15 title after finishing on top of the log with 14 points, while Ramblers finished second on 13 points.
Earlier, Tura Magic beat Nick XI 3-1 to finish third on five points, while Nick Eleven finished fourth on one point. Katutura Youth Academy won the NFA Khomas Under 15 B League with 12 points, followed by Katsville and Windhoek United on seven each and Kaizen FA and Mario Football School on one point each. With the Under 15 title, SKW cemented their dominance of local youth football, after they had earlier won the NFA Khomas Under 17 league title.
The NFA launched the Pilot Youth Football Leagues Project in April 2012 to ensure that structures are in place to streamline youth football. In the past, youth football was run by the schools, but this changed when the NFA’s Youth Development through Football (YDF) programme was introduced about three years ago.

Zwei Wochen nach den U17-Junioren sind auch die unter 15-jährigen Nachwuchsfußballer des Sportklubs Windhoek (SKW) zum Meister der Khomas-Region avanciert. Beim Triumph der „Imawida“-Youngster hatte am vergangenen Wochenende der Ramblers FC das Nachsehen.
Windhoek - In der vom Namibischen Fußballverband (NFA) ausgerichteten regionalen U15-Liga brachte am Samstagmorgen der letzte Spieltag die Entscheidung. Der furios aufspielende SKW gewann auf dem Kunstrasenplatz an der NFA-Zentrale in Katutura gegen die Ramblers mit 4:0 (3:0) und setzte sich damit an die Spitze der Abschlusstabelle. Rang drei sicherte sich Tura Magic, das zuvor gegen den Nick Eleven FC mit 3:1 (2:1) die Oberhand behalten hatte. Heinrich Helao (22. Minute/51.) und Johannes Alfonso (28.) trafen für den Nachwuchs des Premierliga-Aufsteigers. Nick Elevens Dudu Mcladi (27.) hatte kurzzeitig für Gleichstand gesorgt.
Mit zwei Punkten Vorsprung waren die Ramblers als Tabellenführer leicht favorisiert in die Partie gegen den ebenfalls noch ungeschlagenen Tabellenzweiten gegangen. Doch ab der vierten Minute standen plötzlich die Jungkicker aus Pionierspark unter Zugzwang. SKW-Kapitän Tangeni Ndeitunga musste den Ball nach einem Pressschlag mit dem aus seinem Tor geeilten Ramblers-Keeper Mirko Wolf nur noch über die Linie schieben. Auf der anderen Seite klatschte ein Freistoß von Graham Delie nur an den Querbalken.
Rund 30 Minuten waren gespielt, als der von seiner Hintermannschaft im Stich gelassene Wolf erneut den Ball aus dem Netz holen musste. Dieses Mal rauschte ein Ndeitunga-Freistoß von rechts in den Strafraum, wo SKW-Mittelfeldmotor Daniel Hassenpflug (31.) das runde Leder freistehend per Kopf über den U17-Nationaltorhüter hinweg zum 2:0 ins Tor verlängerte.
Doch damit nicht genug: Eine Minute vor der Halbzeit (2x35 Minuten) erkämpfte sich der laufstarke SKW-Flügelflitzer Dieter Kebbel auf der rechten Außenbahn einen schon verloren geglaubten Ball und bediente mit seiner Flanke mustergültig George Hummel (34.), der das Spielgerät mit einem satten Vollspannschuss ins lange Eck knallte.
Direkt nach Wiederanpfiff sorgte der überragende Tangeni Ndeitunga (36.) mit seinem zweiten Tor des Tages endgültig für klare Verhältnisse. Kurz darauf ließ sich Ramblers-Angreifer Jandja Maharero von SKW-Außenverteidiger Olaf Beiter zu einem Frustfoul provozieren und sah folgerichtig die Rote Karte. Maharero war mit der Entscheidung jedoch nicht einverstanden und verpasste Beiter noch einen Schubser, ehe er schimpfend den Rasen verließ.
„Durch diesen Vorfall haben wir unseren Rhythmus verloren, davor waren wir richtig stark“, sagte SKW-Trainer Udo Riedel. Die Partie plätscherte nun vor sich hin, wobei die Ramblers jegliches Aufbäumen vermissen ließen. Zu allem Überfluss scheiterte Bonnie Paulino zehn Minuten vor Schluss mit einem Handelfmeter an dem zuvor kaum geprüften SKW-Torwart Christoph Krönke.
„Wir sind auf ganzer Linie unter unseren Möglichkeiten geblieben“, musste Ramblers-Trainer Uwe Wolff nach dem Spiel konsterniert feststellen. Beim ersten Vergleich der beiden Mannschaften zum Auftakt der Finalrunde hatte es am 7. Juli noch ein 3:3-Remis gegeben. Die folgenden Begegnungen mit Tura Magic (2:1, 3:0) und Nick Eleven (4:1, 4:0) bestritten die Ramblers ohne Punktverlust.
Der SKW fuhr zunächst gegen Nick Eleven einen 4:1-Sieg ein, wobei Daniel Hassenpflug, Tangeni Ndeitunga, Felix Lühe und Ihiha Katjivena als Torschützen glänzten. In der Folgewoche trotzte Tura Magic dem Sportklub ein 2:2-Remis ab. Olaf Beiter per Distanzschuss und der eingewechselte Filipe Cardoro hatten die Riedel-Elf zweimal in Front gebracht. Doch ohne ihren verletzungsbedingt früh ausgeschiedenen Kapitän Ndeitunga gaben die „Imawida“-Jungs den sicher geglaubten Drei-Punkte-Erfolg in der Schlussminute noch aus der Hand.
Mit zwei Punkten Rückstand auf die Ramblers spielte der SKW fortan in der Verfolgerrolle wie befreit auf. Im Rückrundenduell mit Tura Magic schossen die Doppeltorschützen Cardoro, Hassenpflug, Lühe und Ndeitunga sowie Ihiha Katjivena ihr Team zu einem 9:0-Kantersieg. Beim 6:1 gegen Nick Eleven am vorletzten Spieltag war Ndeitunga erneut zweimal erfolgreich. Die weiteren Treffer erzielten Beiter, Lühe, Hassenpflug und George Hummel, Sohn des gleichnamigen Ex-Nationalspielers.
Der SKW und die Ramblers hatten sich als Sieger ihrer Vorrundengruppen für die Finalrunde qualifiziert, Nick Eleven und Tura Magic lösten als Tabellenzweite das Ticket. Der SKW gewann seine fünf Partien in der „Zebra“-Staffel (6:0 gegen Katsville, 3:0 gegen Arcadia, 4:2 gegen Nick Eleven, 3:1 gegen die Katutura Youth Academy und 5:2 gegen die Mario Nailenge Academy) allesamt, während die Ramblers (2:1 gegen eine U17-Mädchenauswahl der NFA, 9:0 gegen die Kaizen Football Academy, 14:1 gegen Windhoek United und 1:0 gegen Tura Magic) in der fünf Teams umfassenden „Oryx“-Staffel ebenfalls eine weiße Weste behielten.
Der Leiter der U15-Liga, Rolf Beiter, hat im AZ-Gespräch angekündigt, noch in diesem Jahr einen Pokalwettbewerb durchführen zu wollen. „Die zuverlässigsten acht Mannschaften werden daran teilnehmen, der genaue Zeitrahmen steht noch nicht fest.“ Da der SKW und die Ramblers als Top-Teams gesetzt sind, könnten sie erst im Finale aufeinandertreffen. Für die Wolff-Elf möglicherweise die Chance zur Revanche.

Namibia’s Under-17 national soccer team will depart for Gaborone on Wednesday to participate in a Four Nations Tournament organised by the Botswana Football Association. According to the Namibian team manager Dawid Morgan, the team of 20 players will be coached by Orlando Pirates coach Christy Guruseb and will be assisted by the NFA In-house coach Ricardo Mannetti.
The tournament starts on Thursday, 23 August and ends on Saturday, 25 August and will also feature the hosts Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique and Swaziland. Morgan added that he was pleased that the Namibian players had passed Magnetic Resonate Imaging (MRI) tests to ascertain their age, as Namibia prepares to compete in the 2013 African Under-17 championship qualifiers, which will be hosted by Morocco. Following the confirmed withdrawal of the Reunion from the qualifiers, Namibia will now have a bye and will play defending champions Burkina Faso in the first round.
Namibia will host Burkina Faso in Windhoek on November 13, and will travel to Ouagadougou for the return leg two weeks later. The winner of the Namibia/Burkina Faso fixture will face the winner of the Ethiopia/Tunisia clash with the eventual winner booking their place at the bi-annual Championships next year.

Guruseb hopes for miracle in Burkina Faso Namibian
NAMIBIA under-17 coach Christy Guruseb believes his side is in need of a miracle in order to overturn a 2-0 deficit against Burkina Faso on Saturday in their second leg 2013 CAF Under-17 Championship qualifier.
The defeat on October 13 at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium has made it that much harder for the Namibians to eliminate reigning African under-17 champions Burkina Faso from the race for a place at the main event in Algeria next next year. Guruseb admits that the team have a big mountain to climb if they are to entertain hopes of reaching the 2013 finals.
“We have our backs against the wall and we will go there and try to keep the score under control and also try to get our own chances and take them. Football is a game and sometimes you need to enjoy it and sometimes miracles can happen and you can have the unexpected,” stated Guruseb.
According Guruseb, the undermining factors in the first leg were the lack of experience in his team and the overly expectant home crowd.
“I can say that we have an inexperienced side and internationally they were also stage-frightened. I can tell that the home supporters expected so much from them and that was too much pressure on the boys,” Guruseb said on the eve of the team’s departure to Ouagadougou on Tuesday afternoon. The coach added that they have since worked on the tactical discipline of the players.
“Tactical awareness is very important for team. Players need to know when to attack and defend as a team and we have worked very hard on these areas.” The winner of the Namibia/Burkina Faso fixture will face the winner of the Ethiopia/Tunisia clash, with the eventual winner booking their place at the biennial championships next year in April.
The Namibia squad remains unchanged from that which played in the first leg encounter.

Kakuva-Team verabschiedet sich mit Pleite in die Weihnachtspause - Stars und BA im Katutura-Derby
Der Sportklub Windhoek (SKW) steckt im Tabellenkeller fest. Gegen den Civics FC kassierte der desolat auftretende Tabellenzehnte am Mittwoch eine herbe Niederlage. Morgen treffen die African Stars und Black Africa (BA) im Spitzenspiel der Woche aufeinander.
Der SKW hat zum Auftakt des zehnten Spieltages der Fußball-Premierliga (NPL) eine 0:4 (0:3)-Pleite gegen den Civics FC kassiert. Der Doppeltorschütze Erwin Afrikaner (4. Minute/44.) sowie Steven Gariseb (41.) und der eingewechselte Llewellyn Stanley (89.) erzielten am Mittwochabend im Windhoeker Independence-Stadion die Treffer für die Mannschaft von Jeremy Zimmer, die seit rund einem Monat ohne ihren Kapitän Heinrich Isaacs auskommen muss. Dieser hatte sich beim Länderspiel gegen Ruanda am 14. November an der Leiste verletzt und wird erst im nächsten Jahr wieder zur Verfügung stehen.
Durch ihren dritten Saisonsieg haben sich die „Civilians“, die gegen den SKW dreimal mit schnell vorgetragenen Konterangriffen erfolgreich waren, zumindest vorübergehend um zwei Positionen auf Rang sechs verbessert. „Das war ein versöhnlicher Jahresabschluss, aber insgesamt betrachtet können wir mit dem bisherigen Saisonverlauf nicht zufrieden sein“, bilanzierte Zimmer, der sein Team nach der Sommerpause unter die ersten Fünf der Abschlusstabelle führen will. „Wir haben das Potenzial, konnten es aber in den vergangenen Monaten nicht konstant abrufen.“
Auch der SKW hinkt den eigenen Erwartungen weit hinterher. Nach der fünften Niederlage der laufenden Spielzeit belegt das Team von Trainer Lesley Kakuva unverändert den zehnten Tabellenplatz. „Das war eine desolate Vorstellung meiner Mannschaft“, gestand Kakuva gestern Abend im AZ-Gespräch. „Das ist ein mentales Problem, den Jungs fehlt die richtige Einstellung.“ Der SKW-Coach kündigte personelle Konsequenzen an: „Wir werden im kommenden Transferfenster einige Spieler abgeben und neue, hungrige Spieler verpflichten.“

The Bidvest Namibia Cup was launched on Monday morning at the Hilton Hotel in Windhoek with close to N$ 20 million in sponsorship for the domestic football flagship competition.
The NFA Cup was last played in 2011 and it was known as the Leo NFA Cup and after months trying to lure corporate Namibia to fund the competition, the NFA and Bidvest Namibia on Monday announced a three-year partnership deal that will see N$ 2.5 Million for each season of which N$ 500 000 will go to the winner, N$ 200 000 for the losing finalist and N$ 100 000 each for the losing semi-finalists.
“The Bidvest management and Board took a very responsible decision for us to come on board and sponsor this cup and we are very happy that we will contribute to sportsmanship in our country and we believe and trust that our bold commitment today will go a long way in ensuring that Namibians enjoy their beautiful game of football” said CEO of Bidvest Namibia, Sebby Kankondi.
Kankondi added that Bidvest Namibia is proud to be associated with this competition. “We took special interest in this Cup which was previously known as the NFA Cup, because it covers all 13 regions across Namibia. For us at Bidvest this is important as this mirrors our business operations which are national in stature”.
NFA President John Muinjo expressed the Association’s gratitude to Bidvest for coming on Board.
“ I would like to thank Bidvest Namibia and all the roles players in this mega deal for their contribution to making this a reality. Bidvest is a big organisation which is reputable and our partnership will surely go a long way in providing a lot for Namibians to talk about as this competition is the best in the land”.
In speech read by Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport Juliet Kavetuna, Right Honourable Prime Minister and Patron of the NFA Hage Geingob, he was looking forward to seeing more stars emerge as a result of the Bidvest Namibia Cup and extended his appreciation to Bidvest Namibia for their generous contribution.
The three-year deal is worth close to N$ 20 million and will see N $ 2.5 million for each season.
In the 2013 Bidvest Namibia Cup Competition Proper scheduled for 9-10 February, the 12 Premiership clubs will be joined by 13 regional second division, the winners and runner up from the Southern Stream first Division as well as Northern Stream and the third placed team in the Northern Stream First Division preliminary round competition and the two clubs that were relegated from the premier league last season, namely Hotspurs and United Stars.
The preliminary round for the Bidvest Namibia Cup for the regional second divisions and the First Divisions will hold their knock-out competition the weekends of 26-27 January and 2-3 February. Venues and times will be confirmed soon.
